After retiring from the Charleston County School District, Susan Trott built a studio at her home on James Island, South Carolina and began attending summer workshops with artists, Ken Kewley and Catherine Kehoe at Cullowhee Arts, in North Carolina in order to pursue a new direction in art. She began making collages as a way to experiment with color and design, often interpreting works by famous artists. She also kept a hand in painting, joining plein air groups and selling paintings of local scenes through galleries and shows.
Currently she revisits places like upper King Street, the Battery, McLeod Plantation and Folly Beach, looking for unique and contemporary views of traditional Charleston subject matter. She attends a local figure drawing group, working from life as much as possible.
